Product launches and client evenings are difficult events to get right. Guests need to hear the pitch. They need to network. And ideally, they need to have a bit of fun so they leave with a positive memory of your brand. Trying to do all three with a traditional DJ almost always fails: either the music kills the networking or the speeches kill the atmosphere.
Silent disco lets you separate those two halves cleanly, without an awkward transition and without needing two different rooms.
The two-mode event, in one room
The pattern we deliver most often for Devon product launches:
- Mode 1 — Arrival and speeches (30–60 min). Guests arrive to background music via a small PA. Speeches, product reveal, Q&A happen via a mic and the PA.
- Mode 2 — Silent disco social (2+ hours). Headphones are handed out from the moment the speeches end. The PA switches off. Guests wear headphones, chat freely between songs, dance if they want, and network without shouting.
At most launches, the evening either dies at 8pm (no atmosphere) or turns into a shouty PA-driven party (no networking). Silent disco lets the room have music and conversation at the same time — which is exactly what a launch evening needs.
Channel choices for launch events
Product launches usually have a wide, adult professional audience. Skip the "party" channels and use taste-driven ones instead:
- Channel 1 — Cool background: mellow chill / lo-fi / classic soul. The "still-networking" channel.
- Channel 2 — Feel-good hits: familiar crowd-pleasers spanning 90s to now. The "having fun" channel.
- Channel 3 — Brand playlist: a curated playlist that reflects your brand. Great for exhibitions or launches with a specific aesthetic.
Kit and layout
- Position the headphones table near the entrance to your social area, not the entrance to the venue. You want guests to pick them up when they're ready, not on arrival.
- Provide a headphones-off "networking corner" with high tables. Some guests will treat that as their base and dip into the dancefloor between conversations.
- For most launches a 50-headphone package is enough. For a 100+ guest launch, consider a second transmitter to allow independent audio in a demo area or breakout room.
Common questions from launch organisers
Won't people find it weird?
Launch attendees are, by definition, curious. Silent disco is a talking point in itself — guests remember it, ask about it, and often bring it up when explaining the event to colleagues afterwards. That's brand recall you didn't have to buy.
Do we need a DJ?
Not for a launch. Curated playlists on each channel work better than a live DJ because guests can pick their vibe. A DJ is worth adding only if you're running a launch that's essentially a party (fashion, drinks brand, music-adjacent product).
What if we want branded headphones?
Get in touch. For larger launches we can advise on branded headphone sleeves and channel signage — worth doing for launches with photography or press attending.
Devon-specific advice
For launches held at hotels around Exeter, Plymouth or the South Devon coast, always check the venue's amplified sound curfew and PA-noise policy in writing. Silent disco makes those rules irrelevant for the social half, but you'll still need to plan speeches around them.
