A marquee in a Devon garden or estate is hard to beat for atmosphere. Add a silent disco and you get all the magic of an outdoor party without the usual problems: no noise complaints, no weather-wrecked sound equipment, and no need to stop when the neighbours go to bed.
Why marquees suit silent disco
- Controlled environment. You get outdoor views with shelter from rain and wind.
- Flexible space. Dancefloor, bar area and seating can all coexist without sound bleeding between them.
- Neighbour-friendly. The music stays in the headphones, so nearby properties aren't disturbed.
- Late nights. Marquee hire often includes later finishing times than fixed venues.
Power for the transmitter
The biggest practical question for marquee parties is power. Most marquees are supplied by a generator or a hook-up from the main house. You'll need:
- Power for the silent disco transmitter.
- Power for any lighting add-ons.
- Ideally, power in or near the marquee for overnight headphone charging if it's a multi-day hire.
If the marquee company is providing a generator, tell them you need a standard 240V socket available near the dancefloor area.
Place the transmitter on a covered table or shelf, not directly on the marquee floor. Grass and mud are bad for electronics, even inside a marquee.
Flooring and dancing
Grass or matting can get slippery or uneven, especially after rain. For the best guest experience:
- Use a solid dancefloor section if the marquee has one.
- Consider dancefloor matting or wooden flooring for the whole marquee if the budget allows.
- Keep cables tucked away and taped down so they aren't a trip hazard.
Weather backup
Even with a marquee, weather can affect your silent disco. Plan for:
- Rain: Make sure the marquee sides can be lowered if the weather turns.
- Wind: Secure any loose decorations or signage near the transmitter.
- Cold: Marquee heaters make a huge difference to how long guests stay.
- Heat: On warm nights, guests will appreciate being able to step outside with their headphones.
Our headphones are robust, but they shouldn't get wet. If your marquee has open sides, keep a plastic storage box handy for spare and charging headphones.
Lighting and atmosphere
Marquees look beautiful with fairy lights, uplighters and our LED headphones adding colour to the crowd. If you add our atmospheric party lighting, position the units to wash the dancefloor without shining directly into guests' eyes.
Questions to ask your marquee company
- Where will power be available inside the marquee?
- What flooring is included, and can a dancefloor be added?
- Can the sides be closed in bad weather?
- What time can we access for setup and breakdown?
- Is there a secure storage area for equipment?
